Calacatta Shower – Gold & Built-In Bench
Calacatta-look porcelain slab shower with gold reveal strips, hex penny floor, floating bench, and matte black thermostatic controls.
About This Project
The brief on this Upstate SC master shower was straightforward: 'make it feel like a hotel suite.' The walls are large-format Calacatta-look porcelain slabs with dramatic veining, run vertically and broken up with thin brushed gold reveal strips that catch the light along the full height of the wall. A floating tile-clad bench wraps the corner, with a slim recessed shelf niche built into the wall above it for shampoo and a razor. The floor is honed white penny mosaic, sloped to a center drain. Controls are matte black thermostatic with separate rain head and handheld diverter, plus an LED-lit linear drain accent strip running across the top of the shower. Everything sits over a fully Schluter-waterproofed substrate. This is the kind of detail-heavy build where every reveal line, miter, and grout joint has to be planned before the first tile is set — closer to cabinetry than to traditional tile work.
