Marble-Look Walk-In Shower with LED Niche

About This Project

The starting point was a builder-grade one-piece fiberglass insert with a shower curtain, plastic corner shelves, and zero design personality. We tore the entire unit out, built a custom curbed shower pan, applied a full Schluter waterproofing membrane, and installed large-format light-gray marble-look porcelain slabs on the walls — the kind of oversized panels that minimize grout lines and make the space feel calm and continuous. A three-shelf recessed niche was framed in with hidden LED strip lighting that glows around the edge of each shelf. The shower floor is a small-scale hexagon mosaic for slip resistance, with a brushed nickel square drain that lines up with the wall tile joints. A square wall-mounted control valve and matching handheld wand on a slide bar finish the wet side, and frameless tempered glass closes the dry side. The homeowner kept the wide horizontal window above the shower for natural light and added hanging plants once everything cured.
